How to apply

If you are an organisation who wants to find out more about the application process and be notified when new funds become available, register with the scheme today.

Step 1. Register your organisation

The registration process involves completing a simple online information form which will ask for information on:

  • your organisation status
  • internal governance processes
  • financial health
  • the type of project you would like to fund through the Energy Redress Scheme

Organisations that meet the initial criteria will be notified and emailed about creating an account on our project portal, through which you can apply for all subsequent funding rounds.  Organisations should only set up one account, which can have multiple users. If your organisation is already registered, you can be added to your organisation’s account by a current user.

Registration deadlines

To be considered for the forthcoming funding window, please ensure registration is completed no later than two weeks prior to the application deadline. This is to allow enough time to check your eligibility. Those who register after this time risk not being considered for the current window.

The table below indicates the estimated date by which new or not yet registered organisations need to register to apply for upcoming funding rounds.

Step 2. Apply for funds

When funding becomes available, eligible organisations will be notified to use their project portal account to apply for funds. The system allows organisations to create, review, save and submit funding applications in multiple rounds.

Eligible organisations will be informed if there are any additional priorities applied in each funding round, alongside the maximum and minimum grant amount that can be requested.

Organisations can only lead on one application in each round but can be a partner in more than one application.

Example application form

Below is an example template of the application form, to help you prepare an application ahead of funding rounds being announced.

When preparing your application, refer to our latest guidance documents, to ensure you provide all the necessary information in the application form. Remember to apply to the funding stream most suited to your project for the best chance of success.

You can also watch the recordings of our previous webinars, that provide advice on how to write a strong application to the different funding streams.

Common reasons applications may not be successful include

  • The applicant has close links to an Ofgem licensee, or the project benefits an Ofgem licensee (e.g. through positive PR or cost offsetting).
  • Inconsistent information provided throughout the application, leading to unclear project aims or impact.
  • A lack of clear justification for the delivery model and how the project implementation will meet the aims identified.
  • Chosen advice delivery type is not clearly linked to needs of the beneficiary group (advice projects).
  • Previously unsuccessful applications resubmitted with no material amendments or updates.
  • Insufficient levels of training for energy advisors.
  • Significant dependence on volunteers without organisational experience of volunteer led projects or the appropriate support structures in place.

Step 3. After submission

Assessment criteria

Applications are scored against several criteria linked to the questions on the application form. Below are some of the key areas we assess.

Alignment with fund aims and themes

  • Does the project aim and intended outcomes support the priorities of the relevant funding stream.
  • Is there strong justification for why the project should be funded through the Energy Redress Scheme specifically.

Project team and partner capacity

  • Does the capacity of the project team/partnership align with the outlined targets and outcomes
  • Do the project team have the appropriate experience and training to deliver the proposed project.

Additionality

  • Does the project demonstrate how it is additional to the organisation’s current service/provision offerings.
  • Have other services in the area been identified and is there an explanation of how the project will complement or work with these services.

Value for money

  • Does the project demonstrate impact and does the impact correlate to the amount of funding requested.
Are all costs requested relevant to delivery of Energy Redress Scheme aims.
  • Have all project costs been considered in line with the identified project activities.

All applications that meet our minimum criteria for funding are shortlisted and then reviewed by an independent panel of experts from across the UK. The panel will make the final decision on who receives grant funding, subject to final project clarifications.

We may contact you for additional information during the assessment process to understand more about your project.

Step 4. Application outcome

Successful applicants will receive their Grant Offer Letters and unsuccessful applicants can access feedback on their application.

Organisations can apply again in the next open funding round, whether they have been successful or unsuccessful in previous rounds.
